Morning Habits for a Successful 2024

Morning Habits create Morning Beauty

The Struggle to Create Successful Morning Habits…

I see you, friend, you’ve been up off and on all night. Implementing successful morning habits right now isn’t a fun thought, but you know you need something to get your day going. It’s Monday, and you are wishing it was still Saturday. Your husband went back to work today, and the process of starting another week without him makes you cringe.

You love your children, and yet this morning, you are hoping they sleep late, so you can get yourself together. Even if they do though, you still aren’t sure where to get the energy that you need or how to implement some semblance of order, control, and peaceful routine to this week. You’re trying to change your perspective, embracing the moments ahead, but the reality is that you’re dreading dealing with it by yourself. It’s wearing, and you’re starting the morning already worn out.

The Solution…

Successful morning habits take work. They take discipline and intentionality. They’re not always easy.
Just because that’s true though, doesn’t mean you need to feel defeated and close down the browser, already giving up, ready to crawl back into bed for a few short minutes before the baby wakes up and life happens to you.

Successful morning habits are your solution, and, shockingly, there are ways to make them easy to implement, fulfilling, and satisfying.

Let’s Build Your Successful Morning Habits

First things first, grab yourself a warm cup of coffee or tea and settle in for some brainstorming time while we discuss some key points to building your successful morning habits.

Mornings aren’t always easy. That’s undeniably true whether you are a morning person or a night owl. However, I think the key point to remember is that sleep is necessary, and in order to make your mornings easier, you must start by analyzing the night before.

My husband and I have recently started choosing to be in bed by 8:00pm. I know that sounds crazy. “How ancient are you?” You might be asking. Don’t worry, we’re young and full of life, enjoying every minute still, but man, do we enjoy it more when we’re rested. We choose 8:00pm because it’s early enough to snuggle or visit before falling asleep, but it also sets us up for success.

  • Assess your sleeping routine.

I encourage you to pick a time to start a new bedtime and write it down somewhere. A sticky note in your kitchen, jot it on your calendar, or text it to your spouse. For a habit to be encouraging, it must be measurable! So, choose an amount of time that you’ll practice it for and then reassess to see what you think of the results. For example, for two weeks, starting today, we will be in bed by 9:00pm.

Now that your evenings are starting to look a little better, pick a time to wake up. Look at your morning and choose a time that fits your goals. I like to be up by 5:30am. It’s early enough that it affords me plenty of time to work out, read, meditate, practice my guitar, and do a little writing. Implement the same time frame on it as you did in the first exercise.

  • Envision your ideal morning and implement a wake-up time.

Brainstorm

Take another long, slow sip of that beverage sitting next to you.

Here’s the fun part. What do you want to see in your mornings? List it out. Write it all down in front of you. Maybe your list looks something like mine: Get dressed, brush my teeth, get ready for the day, play guitar, read 50 pages of my favorite book, read a book of the Bible, an hour of prayer time, talking to my husband before he leaves for work, making breakfast and starting a meal plan for dinner…etc.

  • Brainstorm Successful Morning Habits

Now, let’s cut out or trim down the unnecessary portions. Let’s say you have an hour before your children wake up. It’s a little unrealistic and more than a little overwhelming to think about all of those things crammed into an hour of time. That coffee probably won’t stave off the depression and frustration that will try to crowd in if you work to tackle it all.

So, we’re going to make it attainable next. Let’s revamp your list to look something like this: Get dressed and brush my teeth in 5 minutes, practice 5 chords on my guitar for 5 minutes, read my favorite book for 5 minutes, pray and read my Bible for 10 minutes. Take 10 minutes to pull out my husband’s lunch and make sure we’re on the same page for our day’s plans. Schedule my day for 10 minutes. Complete that hour with a quick 10-minute stretch or workout!

  • Make your successful morning habits attainable.

Wow! All of a sudden, that hour is attainable and exciting. And trust me, you can actually accomplish it!

Implementation

Here’s the last part, let’s implement! Take that list that you whittled down in the last section to reflect your top attainable priorities for your morning and write it down on a piece of paper to place next to your bed so that tomorrow morning already feels like a success. And for this morning, I want you to take 10 minutes (yup, you heard me right) and do 30-60 seconds of each of those items you chose to list. For example, 30 seconds of prayer, 60 seconds of Bible reading, 30 seconds of stretches, etc.

Helpful hint: Anytime your morning gets away from you, don’t allow the “hour” timeframe to keep you from implementing it, do it in 10 minutes on those mornings!

I want you to take a deep breath, finish your coffee, sit and enjoy the sunshine, and know that you created a successful routine, implemented it marvelously this morning, and are ready to go! I’m proud of you!
