Camping

Summertime Fun

Camping is fantastic! It’s a delightful and longed-for portion of our summer season. With two little children, camping can be a rather stressful packing experience. And food often has a mind of its own! Trying to pack enough items and meal plan in such a manner that foods will last and not go bad is quite the difficulty.

This Trip…

As I write this, we are in the throes of packing in earnest for our own camping trip. This trip is a lengthier one, and the stress levels have been rather extensive. However, I’ve found that as I started the packing, I spent a full day boiling eggs, packing smoothies, making fresh blueberry muffins and more. I figured that if I planned my packing for two days, the first one I would spend prepping items, cooking and baking, and the second one would be spent packing the car, arranging the children’s items, and gathering tents, chairs, and more.

Yesterday, I spent the majority of the day, hand forming and baking sausage pattys, slicing ham for sandwiches, and baking additional snacks. Then, I packaged them in ziploc bags and placed them in the freezer to utilize as “freeze packs” in the igloo during our travels.

Final Touches

Today, I will fill the car with our clothing. I did something unique this trip, and I packaged the kids’ clothes in small plastic totes instead of backpacks. The small totes are clear and easy to see what is inside, and the items are more accessible as well. Then the sleeping bags and pillows and more. I created a list to be utilized.

  1. Clothing
  2. Food (Igloo, dry foods, and snack basket)
  3. Dishes, Paper Towels, and Paper Products
  4. Children’s Toys and Books
  5. Pillows and Sleeping Bags
  6. Extra blankets and basinets for our youngest.
  7. Toiletries and Towels
  8. Tents
  9. Camping Chairs
  10. Firewood and Matches
  11. Tools… in case of a vehicle break down
  12. Bikes and Bike Pump
  13. Chargers and Batteries

After carefully packing the car hitch and assembling the items, I will pack the items. Then it will be bath time for all before leaving this evening.

How do you prepare for a camping trip? Especially if you have small children!
